Vũng Tàu has numerous eateries and restaurants. However, you can only have the best experience if knowing the right place to go to. In this series, I’m taking you to the best spots I’ve been to in Vũng Tàu.
1st day (06/11/18)
Brunch: BÁNH KHỌT (Vietnamese mini pancakes).
I’m pretty sure that you have been familiar with Vũng Tàu’s bánh khọt, right? But in fact, finding a good place to try this special dish is not easy, since there are quite a lot of bánh khọt eateries throughout the city.
My hotel was close to this eatery called “Bánh Khọt Gốc Vú Sữa”, but I decided not to eat there, but instead “Bánh Khọt Vũng Tàu 14” (for there has been several complains relating to the service attitude of the “Bánh Khọt Gốc Vú Sữa”).
When I arrived, the place was pretty crowded, but not stucked. You can witness the cooking process from outside the eatery.
We ordered the 2 signatures: bánh khọt tôm (shrimp pancakes) and bánh khọt mực sữa (baby squid pancakes). Those looked small but would surely fill your stomach. Each dish had 8 pancakes, all big and full of shrimps (or squids).
The bánh khọt tôm were so crispy. The shrimps were big and delicious. However, we could still feel the rawness of some shrimps since they were under-cooked.
The bánh khọt mực sữa were as tasty and crispy, with big-size squids. You can feel freshness of the shrimps and squids.
However, this dish was quite greasy so you can quickly feel like not having more. My tip is to have bánh khọt with lots of leaf vegetables and raw papaya to ease it. Personally, I don’t see any problem with its greasiness because I’m a huge fried food fan.
Bonus: the iced tea here was not free; each costs 4.000 VND/ cup. With only 108.000 VND, We had a delicious meal and were quite satisfied with its quality.
